LIFE SKILLS &
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

While employment is a key factor in our trainees gaining independence, we also know that holistic development is vital to their ability to thrive. We talk through topics such as: resilience, healthy communication, character building, boundaries, dealing with failure, how to budget, endurance, healthy relationships and building positive community.

BAKING TO A PROFESSIONAL STANDARD

Throughout the course, trainees build a full repertoire of baking skills and techniques. Starting with simple recipes in the first few weeks, such as chocolate chip cookies, brownies and banana bread, our Baker Trainer teaches the basics like weighing up ingredients, using equipment properly and begins to explore the science of baking. As the weeks progress our trainees begin to master more complex and intricate bakes that require a high degree of skill such as meringues, bread and patisserie.

TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS & MENTORSHIP

Many of our trainees have had little to no experience working within in a professional environment. Throughout the course we talk through important aspects of being an excellent employee, regardless of the job they choose after graduation. Some of the employability skills we explore are: time management, collaboration, managing emotions and stress reduction. Additionally we work with trainees to discover their unique skills and strengths and how to write CVs and cover letters that reflect those.
